HEALTHY LIVING DIRECTOR – ASSOCIATION

Special Certifications or Requirements: Must be at least 21 years of age. Degree in Elementary Education, Recreation, Physical Education or related field required. Must be prompt, organized, enthusiastic, professional, and able to relate to people of diverse backgrounds. Strategic thinker with demonstrated experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously with changing priorities and tight deadlines is required. Must possess excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to present concise and clear information that could include providing reports, written documents and presentations to a diverse group of internal/external stakeholders and audiences. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; basic understanding of Microsoft Outlook. Proven experience participating in cross-functional work teams as either a project leader or project team member. Ability to work independently as well as a supportive part of a team. Strong time management skills and ability to effectively multi task. Job Duties include, but are not limited to: Under the supervision of the Sr. Membership/Marketing & Healthy Living Director, the Association Healthy Living Director will help to develop, fund, implement, and report on healthy living curriculums, environmental assessments, programs and staff skill enhancements to support and encourage healthier children and families in our community. These services will be in accordance with the YMCA Mission, all policies and procedures of the YMCA of Dane County, accreditation standards of City of Madison and licensing standards of the State of Wisconsin. Supports Association on all current healthy living work including but not limited to Capacity Building, Healthier Communities, the Lance Armstrong Foundation, Workplace Wellness Partnership and the Community Transformation Grant. Serves as the Project Coordinator for the Community Transformation Grant. Ensures that the specific standards for physical activity and healthy eating developed for the Y Movement by the Harvard School of Public Health are implemented and healthy living environmental standards are met in all childcare and youth programs including but not limited to the following:
o Employee health and well-being
o Congruent messaging
o Food products used in fundraising
o Engagement of stakeholders
o Spaces for building relationships and small communities
o Physical activity in meetings and events
o Healthy eating options in meetings and events
o Program spaces
Researches best practices, standards, and recommendations on nutrition, physical activity, and enrichment/education for Y programming (including but not limited to LIVESTRONG at the Y, YDPP, Healthy Living Kids formerly YKidzFit and Y5210). Collects data from the Healthier Communities surveys, in addition to current surveys being used, to ensure that programming remains relevant. Assists in the development of systems that apply to the YMCA’s healthy living aims and goals on evaluating overall health seeker membership success. Attends Association–wide branch staff meetings, in addition to healthy living task force branch meetings. Serves as the liaison with communication between YMCA branches and the Association office for the purpose of marketing, communications and PR. Maintains clear communication with the Sr. Membership/Marketing & Healthy Living Director and the Sr. Director of Mission Advancement. Develops and maintains community partnerships to enhance services. Generates revenue by selling health & wellness outreach programming and memberships to area businesses and companies. Collaborates with HR dept. to facilitate YMCA of Dane County Employee Workplace Wellness program. Supports Association in all community expos/events related to healthy living.

Special Certifications or Requirements: A bachelorís degree in recreation, physical education, or related field preferred, or adequate relevant experience in an aquatic environment required. Position frequently requires the ability to move about on the pool deck and position oneself to observe and monitor participants, as well as to actively and directly respond to safety issues and/or emergency situations. . Must be able to move about actively on the pool deck for extended periods. Must be able to lift up to a 50lb person in the water. Must be able to function sufficiently in 81 degree water for extended periods.
Job Duties include, but are not limited to: The Aquatic Site Supervisor assists in administrative duties, pool management, swimming instruction and lifeguarding to ensure a positive, safe and welcoming environment where members and guests of all ages, cultures, and abilities can participate and enjoy aquatic activities at the YMCA. Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, and maintains constant surveillance of the pool area when lifeguarding, filling in for planned or unplanned staff absences. Assists with Aquatic Department administrative duties.Assists in the development, promotion, and evaluation of pool programs. Collaborates with the Aquatic director to facilitate staff certification training, staff orientations, staff meetings and in-service trainings for Aquatic staff. Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as needed. Provides leadership and guidance to aquatic staff in the absence of the Aquatic Director. Documents any incidents, accidents, emergencies, rescues, behavior issues, and staff concerns communicating all information clearly, accurately, and timely to the Aquatics Director. Develops positive relationships with members and participants and provides motivational support and guidance. Instructs and trains staff for required certifications with American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard certifications as well as First Aid/CPR/AED certifications, assists in maintaining accurate training records.

Job Duties include, but are not limited to: Youth/Teen Camp Counselors provide a positive role model to youth in YMCA Day Camp programs by developing and implementing age appropriate activities, carrying out all aspects of day camp responsibilities, and effectively communicating the daily activities to all those involved with the day camp program. Leads activities and supervises an assigned group of campers ages 11 – 15. Special Certifications or Requirements: Strong knowledge of fitness program development, conditioning principles, and exercise physiology is required. Degree in health and fitness, or related field required. Experience teaching a variety of group fitness classes is required. Previous YMCA training experience preferred. Must already possess or obtain the following certifications within the time frames indicated: YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles required within 6 months of hire. YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise and YMCA Foundations of Strength and Conditioning within 6 months of hire. Personal Training Certification from an accredited association such as ACSM, ACE, NSCA, AFAA within 6 months of hire. Specialty certifications related to group fitness classes being is encouraged. Job Duties include, but are not limited to: The Health and Wellbeing Director oversees all areas related to the Health and Fitness Department including management of the Lifestyle Center, Group Fitness Classes, outreach programs and locations, with a strong emphasis on values that encompass healthy lifestyles for the spirit, mind, and body. This includes planning, developing, administrating, expanding, and evaluating all programs and services offered by the Health and Wellness Department. Plans, develops, and executes Health and Wellbeing programs including both on-site and at outreach locations to ensure growth with membership and program involvement. Strives to become a leader in the community, forms relationships within the community and promotes the YMCA to aid in community development as well as financial development for the Association. Evaluates enrollment, programs, and services provided by the Health and Wellbeing Department. Collects data and analyzes current fitness trends adding, dropping or developing new programs when appropriate. Coordinates employee wellness plan, corporate wellness, outreach services, on site health screenings, community events, health fairs, wellness clinics, and Healthy Living initiatives including YKidzFit. Special Certifications or Requirements: Requires 2-3 years experience playing the sport being taught. Prefer 1-2 years experience referring the sport being taught. Must know and understand the game rules for the sports being taught. Knowledge of the growth and development of children as it relates to the skills required for the sport or game being played. All Lead Instructors must complete CPR and First Aid within the first 90 days of hire. Must be at least 16 years of age. Must be able to stand and move around for 4-5 hours, maintaining an appropriate game pace. Work includes some bending, moving and twisting. Programs may run outside during cold, snowy, wet or windy weather. Must be able to lift 45 pounds.
Job Duties include, but are not limited to: Under the supervision of Sports Director or Assistant Sports Director, this person will coach and/or provide instruction in practices and games of designated sports programs. When appropriate this person will also be the referee. All programs must incorporate character development and the YMCA four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Provides age appropriate skill instruction in the designated sport. Arrives 10-15 minutes before the program begins and greets parents and children as they arrive. Leads discussions and activities that promote the four core values and character development. Implements the YUSA Super Sports philosophy. Referees games consistently and fairly following the YMCA Youth Sports Rules. Responds appropriately to emergencies and adheres to YMCA Emergency Procedures. Maintains a clean program area: sweeps gyms between games as needed, picks-up the gym or field after programs end, and puts away all equipment. Reports problems, conflicts or suspicious activity to direct supervisor the day that it occurs.

Days & Hours: School Year 2011-2012 Part time hours - 15 - 20 hours / week, 2-5 days/week, Mon - Fri, After school positions must be available until 6:00pm
Pay Rate: Based on experience & education $8.00-$10.00/ hour + excellent benefits
Special Certifications or Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years of age. High School Diploma or equivalent. Related prior job experience: experience with early childhood and in licensed child care programs preferred. 40 hours of child development or related coursework or obtain within 6months of hire. Knowledge of general growth and development, learning theories and developmentally appropriate activities for children preferred. Ability to work independently, but seek supervision, and constructively utilize it. Communication and interpersonal skills. Ability and willingness to work with children with diverse abilities and needs. Must be able and willing to participate in the water during aquatic activities. Lead teachers must have 80 hours or 2 college courses in child development.
Job Duties include, but are not limited to: Provide primary care to children ages 5 – 12. All centers are state licensed. Madison sites are city accredited. Engages children during program hours. Assists in leading and supervising developmentally appropriate activities with children. Assists in facilitation of all aspects of daily schedule with children. Maintains accountability of all assigned children at all times. Implements and practices emergency procedures in accordance with Wisconsin State Licensing and YMCA of Dane County policies and procedures. Utilizes positive behavior guidance techniques with children. Assumes leadership role in Lead Teacher’s absence. Assists Lead Teacher, and collaborate with other site staff, to develop and plan thematic and age appropriate activities for children daily. Communicates in a positive, appropriate, timely manner with staff, children and families.
