Youth Development

Billy's YStory continued

Billy had attended a YMCA summer camp down south, but it didn’t compare to his outdoor experience at Discovery Day Camp!

Billy's mom said that his older sister, now 25, called home that evening to see how his first day of camp went. She talked about how much fun she remembered having at the YMCA camp she attended as a young child.

YMCA summer camp is intergenerational for this family!!

Healthy Living

Cindy's YStory continued

Later that Fall, I started teaching swim lessons at the Northeast Y. I have the opportunity to work with three and four year olds every Tuesday morning and help them develop confidence in the water. I also started taking a BOSU class - it was amazing! In a short month I was in the best shape of my life. the instructors passion for health, fitness, and wellness was contagious.

The following year, my husband joined the Y as well. We both completed a YMCA triathalon. It was a great motivator for both of us to develop a well rounded exercise routine. My husband worked hard to improve his swimming skills and greatly increased his endurance in the pool. We were excited to have upgraded to the family membership so we could both enjoy watching our daughter explore the pool. A fond memory for my husband and I is volunteering for the Family Carnival - we ended up calling it a "date night" we had so much fun.

We had our second daughter, and the staff in Child Watch has welcomed our new addition with open arms. They also give our older daughter much needed attention.

Our favorite aspect of the YMCA community is the friendly people and safe environment. We believe it takes a "village" to raise a child and the YMCA is an integral part of our village. Thank you to everyone for being a part of our family development!

Social Responsibility

Tom's YStory continued

I remember when one of the kids got off the bus and said "look at the huge rat" but it wasn't a rat - it was a rabbit. I was amazed this kid did not know what a rabbit looked like. I taught him a bunch of things about the environment that he was not aware of.

I work for the Y because the Y is for everyone, they never turn anyone away due to income or backround. It strengthens our community. I come to the Y to workout, because staying healthy is important to me. I volunteer with the Y because taking an active role in the community is meaningful to me. I give to the Y because they help everyone to be healthy and connected to their community.
