Improve Physical Fitness Through Fun

The YMCA stresses child-oriented attitudes by keeping winning in perspective, having fun, improving physical fitness, and working with the whole child. The YMCA wants the quality of play to improve in order to meet the needs of all participants whatever their ability and skills. The YMCA accomplishes this by training adult volunteers in clinics and workshops that the kids come first and winning comes second. The key for coaches and parents is to keep winning in perspective. Competition will happen in youth sports and preschool activities without any external pressures. It is important to keep competition at a level appropriate for the athlete.

The goal of our Youth Sports programs are to help the child grow to his/her fullest potential in mind, body, and spirit. Activity helps the body grow; thinking advances the mind; and belief makes our spirit grow.

Youth Sports Help Kids Hop the Gap Kids and teens need support during summer months, while they’re away from the enriching activities, organized play, and positive supervision that school provides. Without summertime support, gaps in learning, hunger and safety appear. The YMCA of Dane County helps our local youth navigate these gaps and challenges by providing meaningful programs, like youth sports, that nurture and build mind, body, and spirit.

HEALTH & FITNESS PROGRAMS:

  • Let's Get Movin'
    • Introduction to fitness terms and activities that are then promoted through various physical fitness activities. Activities include: obstacle courses, songs, coordination exercises and sequencing of ideas. Children will explore new ways to have fun and get moving!
  • Home School Physical Education Class
    • This co-ed physical education-based class focuses on sports & games and is designed to keep home school students active. Some activities will include basketball, soccer, floor hockey, baseball, kickball and organized group games
  • Circuit Training
    • Utilize circuit stations for beginner level strength training routine with a Lifestyle Center Coach. Improve strength and flexibility.
