Teaching Rhythm & Creative Movement

​​Our dance classes offer a non competition setting for children to learn and engage in the benefits of a high quality program without the high prices of competitive institutions. Y Dance programs offer instructors with years of experience.

Recreational dance program focuses on teaching rhythm and creative movement as well as developing technique in ballet, tap, and hip hop/jazz at all 3 branches for 3-18 year olds with the Dance Academy Recreational dance program.

AVAILABLE DANCE PROGRAMS:

  • Pre-Ballet
    • Ages 3-5
    • Enjoy the love of ballet in this introductory class to formal ballet technique. Comfortable dance attire and ballet shoes recommended.
  • Ballet
    • Ages 5-12
    • Formal ballet technique is introduced with an emphasis on terminology, musicality and muscular skills, as well as class composition. Ballet attire and ballet shoes recommended.
  • Hip Hop
    • Ages 5-12
    • Build on your hip hop skills through the latest music. Skills include isolations, speed, stalls and footwork. Comfortable attire and tennis shoes recommended.
  • Jazz
    • Ages 5-12
    • Exercise to the latest musical hits. Proper dance stretching and jazz technique will be covered. Dance attire and jazz shoes recommended.
  • Tap
    • Ages 5-12
    • Learn rhythms and challenge yourself with techniques. Work on your coordination and learn tap terminology. No formal attire required and tap shoes highly recommended.
  • Creative Movement
    • ​Ages 5-10
    • This is a first introduction to modern dance for children. While moving freely through space, each child explores an innovative and highly creative dance form in a structured class environment. A variety of music will be used including African drum beats and piano. No shoes are necessary because this form of dance is done barefoot! 
  • Ballroom Dance
    • Ever thought about taking ballroom dance lessons? Want to learn how to dance the Foxtrot and Waltz? No prior experience necessary and no partner needed. Please dress in comfortable clothing and bring a pair of dress shoes to wear in the studio.
  • NEW! Breakdance
    • The “Breaking” classes are taught by experienced, local dancers providing highly structured courses to the youth around the greater Madison area. The instructors use “Breaking” as a tool to empower youth, while conditioning them for many of life’s challenges. As a community of young adults, the instructors strive to inspire and encourage the participants by creating and expressing themselves through this type of dance.
